Spiritual Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1-31)Duncan Pratt, June 5, 2016
Part of the Holy Spirit series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
From 1 Corinthians 12 we look at Paul's teaching on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and his encouragement to pursue spiritual gifts. But are there things that hinder us receiving these gifts?
The prophetic word Duncan read after the sermon is this:
"I believe the Lord is saying:
'My people the wind of change is blowing in your lives and in this season, the wind of change is blowing through this church and my people in this area, the wind of change is blowing in this town and region. Do you not perceive it, do you not see it, do you not hear it? As you see things change in your environment around your town, so change is already happening in the heavenlies. For indeed the time has come. The time has come for a mighty wind and not a gentle breeze. The time has come to see my power demonstrated in the lives of children and the young, in families and among the old. Breakthroughs are coming, even the person on the street will cry out for help.
For some this will mean you living your whole life in this town, for some you will turn down career opportunities, for some you will live among those you are called to serve, for some you need to step up in faith and take responsibility, for some I am raising you up to positions of influence in this town, for some to leadership among my people. But I say to you, he who gives up anything for the sake of my kingdom, takes up his cross and follows me, will see my provision, live in my faithfulness, and delight in my reward.
So my people leave behind your small vision, leave behind your small dreams, leave behind the old ways, and be willing in the day of my power to lay down your lives for the kingdom of my Son. You my people are called to greatness, for in your weakness you will be strong, believe this and you will see my Kingdom come, for I am calling you forward into the new'
